How often do we underestimate the potential of the tools within our reach? Do we truly extract the full value of our social media presence? Particularly, as salespeople, are we overlooking a hidden treasure in LinkedIn?

Like most sales folks, I too, once dismissed LinkedIn as just another platform to share business articles and congratulate colleagues when they land a new role or promotion.

But was I wrong!

Over the last year, my journey has unravelled a reality that is both surprising and promising.

Through a simple, but consistent plan, I managed to unearth loads of opportunities that transformed my business development and sales opportunities in my business dramatically.

It was during this process that I came to a crucial realisation: My posts needed to provide genuine value to my audience.

It wasn’t just about broadcasting messages; it was about creating meaningful connections and building trust with others. By understanding this pivotal point, I was able to transform my approach and make a significant impact on my online connections.

Measuring Real Success

After months of persistent efforts and dedication, the landscape slowly began to transform. It wasn’t a sudden influx of likes or comments that made the difference, but rather the noticeable increase in impressions and the steady flow of meetings with potential customers and partners.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson: vanity metrics, such as likes and comments, do not truly indicate trust. Instead, the true measure lies in the frequency of meaningful meetings and the recognition of your content’s value during those meetings.

Building trust and credibility takes time and consistent engagement, and it is these genuine connections that truly matter in the long run.

The Tangible Outcomes of Consistency

Today, I consistently hit my personal targets for customer meetings and content mentions— for me, this is a clear sign of trust from my network.

My experience aligns with research from the Content Marketing Institute, which states that consumers are more likely to buy from companies whose salespeople have strong personal online brands and engage in regular social media activity.
